I know this message has already been responded to multiple times,
but I'll throw in my two cents worth.

Last fall, I set up a small bog in the Okanagan, where temps
in the winter (mid-November to late Feb) were generally around
-5C. Minimum temps were down to -25 for a few days in a row. The
bog was mulched with a layer of pine needles and covered over
with plastic (a bad choice, fungal problems almost killed off the
plants, use burlap instead!).

Everything that I had in the bog survived the winter. This
included S.purp, S.leuco, S.psit, S.oreo, S.alata, S.rubra plus
hybrids and seedlings, D.capensis, D.binata, and vft's.

Overall, the temp in the bog remained around the freezing point
for the entire winter, with it occasionally dropping to about
-10C (during the cold streaks). The plants are full and lush this
year, producing many flowers, offshoots, etc., so I'd say they
definitely weren't harmed by the cooler temps!

My two cents,

Chris
