Kit,
Sarracenia psittacina is definitely one of the pickier Sarracenias, and
can die easily... I've killed one at home and a few at work. I still have
one old one at work and one newer one doing well at home. They
seem to HATE drying out at all, especially when it's hot and sunny... I
decided to grow the one at home IN my little water pond that is part
of my new bog (the pond is filled with rain water with peat added). It
is thriving so far, with the pot almost completely submerged, and
partially shaded by being nestled against a miniature papyrus plant.
The one at work is in a low end of the bog, and does not receive full
sun. I believe you mentioned sunny very hot weather -- that could
have done your plant in. I hope it will recover, but my experience has
been that they don't come back once they die back like that. Good
luck!
Susan
