Ivan again:
Thankyou kindly for your response David, but CP aliens was not what I
meant to bring attention to. The FAQ page also tells how re-introduction
can be done responsibly. I feel that in the case of Darlingtonia it's not
exotic introduction, but rather "repatriation". Juniper's book reports
that Darlingtonia had been previously found in nearby Inglenook Fen. If
this is true, then Human activity may have eliminated it there. Also,
Darlingtonia does not seem to me to fit into the weed criteria; it is not
invasive. Since it is already well established in Albion, this could be
taken advantage of. I have heard of talk from the Nature Conservancy to
weed it out. This troubles me. There is a Pygmy Forest Boardwalk less
than one mile away which appears to be little visited. My opinion is that
Darlingtonia is an asset to the Albion Bog. I think a better idea than
weeding would be a new boarwalk with a Pygmy Forest Bog theme.
Darlingtonia would draw more visitors. NC had considered purchasing the
privately owned property and doing this, but it did not go through. As of
now, the property is still up for sale. Any entrepreneurs interested?
