Subject: Sarracenia question

I'm very new at CP's. I am just seeing the first new growth on my
S. leucophylla and S. flava. Here's what I'm noticing: One trumpet
will start to grow, and then another one will start growing out of the
middle of the first one, splitting the base of it apart.

What happens to the first trumpet? Does it continue to grow and be
a normal trumpet, or does the second one kill the first by splitting
it's base open?
