Hi Folks:

Mike raised some very good points in his discussion below on global
warming. However, what I did not see Mike explain is the documented
increase in global CO2 over the last hundred years. I do not recall
seeing this increase being attributed to natural causes but to
anthropogenic CO2 increases concommitant with the industrial revolution.
Also, the global temperature increase is real. The satellites have not
recorded temperature increases because they are measuring temperature in
the UPPER ATMOSPHERE. Wouldn't we expect temperature increases from
elevated greenhouse gases to be recorded at the surface anyway
(perecisely where the increases have been recorded)? Finally, why play
russian roulette with our environment anyway? If there is any
possibility of humanity perturbing out environment than clearly we
should be erring on the side of caution. Prudence would dictate
anticipating a worst case scenario and adjusting our behavior. When it
comes to national defense we have no problem justifying extraordinary
expense for eventualities. I would expect the same treatment with our
environment. Yes the planet has seen radical, natural change in the past
but why would we inflict this on a system we have coevolved with? We are
already seeing increased extinction rates and if we persist in our
behavior maybe we will be next!

Sincerely,

Phil Sheridan
